To Read List

June 25, 2009

A friend sent these book suggestions my way and I’m excited to grab them this week at the bookstore:

Moloka’i by Alan Brennert—Tells of the leper colony on Moloka’i in Hawaii in the 1890’s.  A little girl contracts leprosy and is taken from her family to this isolated island.

We Need to Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver—Very moving and disturbing at the same time.  Written from the mother’s point-of-view, as her son has committed a school shooting.  It’s written as letters and fades from past to present throughout.

The Importance of Being Kennedy by Laurie Graham— A fictitious account from the POV of the Kennedy’s nanny.  It follows them from when they were younger up through WWII.

Any thoughts/opinions on these picks?  They all sound really interesting and unique to me – thanks for sending them my way!
