The Complete Booker Challenge

February 15, 2010

I saw this challenge on Fresh Ink Books and am really excited to take it on.  As if my “to read” list is not long enough: “The Complete Booker Challenge is not so much a reading challenge as a long-term project in which the participants aim to read all 41 books that have won the Man Booker Prize for Fiction. There is no time limit.”

Since reading 41 books could be overwhelming, Laura at Musings is hosting The Booker Challenge for 2010, which has some different options:

Winners Circle: read at least 6 winners
Contender
: read at least 6 shortlisted nominees
Longshot
: read at least 6 longlisted nominees
Booker Devotee: choose a year, and read all 6 shortlisted works from that year
Booker Fanatic: choose a year, and read all 13 long- and shortlisted works from that year

I’ve started a list of all the Booker winners and noted which I’ve already read.  I’ll continue to chip away at this list while also tackling the 2010 Challenge.  Wish me luck!

Some dates of note for the 2010 Booker Prize:

  • The longlist for the 2010 prize will be announced in July 2010
  • The shortlist will be announced in September 2010
  • The winner will be announced on 12 October 2010

Reading the Bookers is great as there are so many fantastic books hidden on the list. There are also some terrible ones, so it is fun because you never know what you’re going to read next! Good luck!

Good luck with this challenge. I joined too, and committed to 6 books in 2010. Have fun.
