A few weekends ago my boyfriend and I headed to Portland, ME. We just relaxed, walked around Old Port, saw some lighthouses, and popped into book stores and coffee shops. We discovered Yes Books, which was a really cool, crazily organized, used book store.
What is really great about this bookstore is that its pretty tiny and books are just stacked everywhere. It makes for a really fun time walking through the tall bookshelves and – even though there are books everywhere – it’s surprisingly not too difficult to find what you are looking for.
Andrew found a copy of Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer. I always get this book confused with London’s Call of the Wild and the movie Hatchet, which I remember watching in elementary school. Not surprisingly, Andrew was appalled by this confusion and we left with a copy. (I’ve now finished it and really enjoyed it, in a haunting, lonely kind of way.)
I love used bookstores and Yes Books was one of my favorites. It has that awesome book smell, a quirky shopkeeper, and tons and tons of unique picks. We will definitely be back there on our next trip to Portland.
